- 73% of youth aged 16-24 report struggling with loneliness. Schools can be a place of healing for students.
- Our signs have been shown to catalyze conversations. Conversation is the fundamental building block of relationships.
- Rationale behind the School Climate Transformation Kit
- Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Furahi Achebe, and I have been a high school teacher for 11 years. I have won awards as an educator for my work in SEL and in innovation. (Please click here to discover more about me.) I lost an adolescent in my family to suicide, and self-harm occurrences have happened in schools when I was present. I realized that when it comes to supporting our youth, all educators, including me, cannot be bystanders amid the prevalent pain and angst in our schools. I gathered a team of gifted professionals and formed a company with a mission to alleviate the suffering of our youth.
- Extreme events are just the tip of the iceberg. They indicate a mountain of suffering spread across much of the student population. The small step that you have taken today can yield positive results in many metrics that measure student wellness simply by improving students' sense of school connectedness. According to a 2024 paper by the CDC, when students feel cared about at school, they are more likely to "Have higher grades and test scores, have better school attendance, and graduate high school."
- About the School Climate Transformation Kit
- It contains media for your school's digital signage system to unite and engage your school community and downloadable templates for school-wide icebreakers that you can use with or without mounted digital flatscreens. Your school's climate transformation will rely on two people: you, as a leader and an expert on the current mental state of high school students, and the person who controls the mounted flatscreen digital signage in the hallway or cafeteria of your schools. If you do not have mounted screens, you can use a Promethean board or any flatscreen to loop our content or project it on the wall in locations where students wait. Creating signage is a collateral duty in all schools. You will be applauded for finding content that minimizes this duty. If you have monitors in your hallways, our content will upgrade them to support students' emotional and motivational needs.
- Transforming your school's culture and climate is as easy as using our salubrious content. You can make a bigger impact by galvanizing your coworkers to use the "Today's Conversation Question" to catalyze conversations. This is where the real substance of relationship building happens. Students will see the signs as they move about the building over the course of the day and expect to be asked their opinions. Asking for another's opinion is a powerful way to make others feel seen, heard, and valued. The standard question, "How are you today?" garners a rhetorical response, "Fine." So, typically, it does not promote person-to-person connection. Here are some testimonials that speak to how our content catalyzes conversation.
- More about the signs
- For best results, our signage content should be placed in a place where students pass upon entering or in a place of waiting. Our content contains other information that is designed to engage students on a daily basis. For example, Word of the Day, Today in History, and Fun Facts on our Did You Know signs, plus there are a variety of wellness self-service signs. Our organization is a social enterprise, and we want each school to start out as strong as possible because we care about your students. Therefore, we will make all our media free for you to use all the way up to September 30. Please look at a week-long sample from May 2025.
- Go to the menu at the top then click on the button that says 'View a Sample.' You will see how the various facets of our program come together for the improvement of your school climate and culture. As a part of the kit, you will receive templates for a school-wide icebreaker game that can be played in the first week.
